How to Deep Clean Your Kitchen Cabinets

Published
June 16, 2020

Kitchen cabinets are known to accumulate different kinds of stains and marks. They can collect dust, dirt, food splatters, grease and other cooking residues. While it’s important to perform daily kitchen cabinet cleaning (or overall kitchen cleaning), sometimes it’s still better to go the deep clean route to fully eliminate sickness-causing germs and bacteria. In this article, we’re going to show you a step-by-step guide on how to clean kitchen cabinets of different types.

How Often Should You Clean Kitchen Cabinets?

Cleaning the kitchen cabinet is a task that needs to be done on a daily and weekly basis. Since they can get dirty easily, it’s always recommended to practice consistency by wiping the surfaces after cooking. On the other hand, deep cleaning kitchen cabinets can be one at least once a month.

How to Clean a Wooden Cabinet

  1. Wipe the wood cabinets and drawers using a damp cloth or sponge. Rub the cloth or sponge against the surface in a circular motion to break the stain particles — from grease and grime build-ups.
  2. Using a soft cloth, wipe the drawer pulls and door handles of the cabinets. You can use water for this step.
  3. After wiping the drawer and cabinet surface, work your way around the hardware and the wood around the area. Use a toothbrush and a gentle cleaning solution to work away the stains without damaging the wooden material.
  4. Wipe the interior of the doors and drawers using the cloth or sponge. Make sure all items are removed altogether for easy cleaning.
  5. Using a second cloth or sponge, wash away the cleaning solution from all surfaces. Simply dip the cloth or sponge into a bucket of water and scrub all surfaces until fully clean.
  6. Dry everything by wiping all surfaces using a clean towel. Make sure to do this repeatedly until there are no traces of water left anymore.

How to Clean a Painted Cabinet

  1. Mix one part water with two parts of baking soda powder into one cleaning solution.
  2. Apply the cleaning paste onto the stain, let it sit for a few minutes, and rub it to break away the stains. Afterwards, wipe the cleaning paste from the surface using a clean cloth.
  3. To remove greasy stains, get a diluted ammonia solution and apply it to a clean cloth. Wipe it on the affected area using a circular motion. Do this repeatedly until the stain is fully removed.
  4. If the paint starts chipping away, consider repainting the kitchen cabinet to breathe new life into the entire thing.

How to Clean a Laminated Cabinet

  1. Wipe the cabinets using cleaning wipes or a microfiber cloth dampened with vinegar. Afterwards, dry the entire thing thoroughly with another clean and dry cloth.
  2. To remove stains, use a baking soda paste after mixing baking soda powder and water. Apply the paste onto the affected area and wipe it clean.
  3. Avoid using rough-edged pads or cloths to prevent chipping and damage.
  4. If you’re dealing with scuffs, simply use a soft eraser to remove these marks away.

How to Clean a Glass Cabinet

  1. Use a glass cleaner solution and a microfiber cloth to wipe away smudges and fingerprint marks from the glass panes.
  2. Clean the cabinet by working your way inside using the cleaning solution and cloth. Do this repeatedly until you can no longer see stains.
  3. To get the most out of your cleaning experience, avoid oil-based cleaners for this cabinet type. They can further damage glass surfaces with residues and streaks — making the whole thing ridden with more stains.
