Kitchen Cleaning Checklist: Daily, Weekly & Monthly

Published
May 13, 2020

Cleaning the kitchen is a fun and easy task that should never inspire fear or anxiety. As one of the most used spaces in the house, keeping the kitchen clean and organized is important in making sure that bacteria and germs will be kept at bay. Here’s a simple and complete cleaning checklist that you can follow when tidying up your kitchen area.

Daily Cleaning Checklist

Keeping the kitchen neat and clean begins with a number of daily cleaning tasks. Here are some essential chores that you must complete on a day-to-day basis to stay organized and keep different messes at bay:

  • Spray and wipe the kitchen countertops clean with every use to prevent stains from sticking and hardening onto the surface
  • Wash dishes after every use and refrain from leaving them on the sink for a long period of time
  • Wipe spills or stains from the kitchen floor and appliances
  • Sweep the floor and mop when necessary to remove stain marks left by accidental drink spills or food drops
  • Wash the sink at the end of the day to disinfect the surface from any germs or bacteria
  • Replace the kitchen rags every day with newly washed ones

Weekly Cleaning Checklist

Tidying up your kitchen also involves a combination of reorganizing and deep cleaning essential appliances on a weekly basis. You can aside a day during the week where you can do all of these properly and uninterrupted:

  • Inspect leftover items in the refrigerator and dispose meals that have gone sour or rotten
  • Clean the exterior of kitchen appliances by wiping them with a spray cleaner and a clean dry cloth
  • Eliminate traces of odor and stains inside the microwave by wiping it clean with a damp cloth
  • Disinfect the sink and clean the faucets properly by washing them with a multipurpose cleaner
  • Sanitize all your dishwashing sponges by soaking them in a cleaning solution of bleach and water
  • Mop the floors with a multipurpose cleaner to break away stains and other particles of dust and dirt
  • Replace the dish and hand towels and wash the old ones using an antibacterial laundry detergent

Monthly Cleaning Checklist

With a regular daily and weekly cleaning plan set in place for your kitchen, doing a monthly deep cleaning schedule will now be easier and more manageable to do. During this time, you can focus more on hard-to-reach places and surfaces that aren’t normally included in your daily and weekly cleaning trips.

  • Make a kitchen inventory to determine the supplies that need restocking and replacing
  • Dispose of any ingredients that have gone rotten or are no longer in use to save space in the kitchen
  • Wipe the shelves and drawers of the refrigerator to remove any dirt or odor that have stuck on the surfaces
  • Clean and get rid of dust formations on top of cabinets and kitchen appliances such as the refrigerator and water dispensers
  • Reorganize your refrigerator and get rid of items that are no longer in use or most likely to spoil to save space

Quarterly Cleaning Checklist

Tidying up the kitchen every quarter is normally reserved for disinfecting kitchen appliances. Here are the ones that should always be part of your checklist:

  • Defrost the freezer and eliminate ice formations from the machine to refresh the entire system
  • Clear the refrigerator and freezer’s dripping pan by throwing to water away and wiping the container with a disinfectant
  • Deep clean the oven by getting rid of the hard stains inside the machine
  • Clean and disinfect the microwave by wiping the turntable, door and rubber gasket clean
  • Sort through kitchen utensils by making an inventory of missing ones and getting rid of broken items
